St. Joseph's Seminary was founded in 1896 for the formation of men for the priesthood. Since 1977, St. Joseph's Seminary has offered degrees to laymen and women, men and women in consecrated life, and clergy for the purpose of preparing future Catholic leaders. To fulfill this vision, the Institute of Religious Studies was established in 1993 to offer the Master of Arts in Religious Studies and two Post-Masters Certificates. Over seven hundred students have earned a master's degree from St. Joseph's, many of whom continue to serve the Church in their parish, school, and catechetical ministry.
