The Master of Arts in Theology (MA in Theology) is an academic degree program designed to provide students with a graduate level understanding of the saving mysteries of Christian revelation in the Catholic tradition. It is intended for those seeking a general theological education as a foundation for their vocation and service in the Church, for those preparing for further graduate studies and research, and for those who seek to grow intellectually and spiritually.
The Master of Arts in Theology degree requires 39 credits of graduate theological study.
The degree is open to all qualified lay, religious, and clergy who wish to expand their knowledge of the Catholic faith.

What is the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Theology?
The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate is an 18-credit, 6-course program designed to provide students with a graduate-level understanding of the saving mysteries of Christian revelation in the Catholic tradition. It is intended for those seeking a general theological education as a foundation for service in the Church or for personal enrichment.
Why would someone pursue the Certificate program?
Some students may not wish to pursue the more extensive Master of Arts in Theology program. Others will use this course of study in preparation for further graduate studies, or simply as an opportunity to grow intellectually and spiritually.
How are classes offered?
All credits for this program can be completed either in person, or remotely via a fully synchronous online format. Remote learners attend real-time classes with their on-site peers via live Zoom sessions, and all students interact and access course materials via a shared LMS platform.

Meeting times are scheduled at convenient times in the evening for working students. See the days and times of our Fall 202 1 classes.

Admissions Requirements
Master of Arts in Theology and Post-Baccalaureate Certificate
1. Bachelor of Arts degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution (120 credits in college level studies).
2. For ESL applicants, successful completion of the TOEFL iBT with a score of 80 or higher (90 or better recommended). Applicants scoring lower than 80 can be accepted on condition they take remedial English courses during their first academic year at SJS.Application Process

2. Submit official transcript(s) from each undergraduate and graduate institution attended to:Office of the Registrar

3. Include with the application a statement of purpose explaining your motivation for graduate study.
4. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from individuals who are familiar with your academic and/or pastoral background.
5. Submit proof of immunization (for all students born on or after January 1, 1957 and attending classes on campus).
6. Submit a valid government issued photo identification (Passport, Driver’s License/Permit, or US Military ID).
7. Submit a Current photo (headshot only).
8. Arrange for an interview with one of the Associate Deans (see contact information below).
Upon initial acceptance into the Master of Arts programs, one is considered to be a non-matriculated student until one has completed six (6) credits at the Seminary with an earned grade average of “B” or better.
