Michael A. Hoonhout, Ph.D., is Professor of Dogmatic Theology at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, NY since 2013. Previously he taught at the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington on Long Island, NY (2006—2013), and the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. (1998—2006). He obtained his doctorate in Systematic Theology from Boston College (1998), with his dissertation entitled, “The Systematic Understanding of Divine Providence in the Summa Theologiae of St. Thomas Aquinas.” His main area of research is the effort to incorporate the cosmology of modern science within the theology of creation and divine providence of St. Thomas Aquinas. Other areas of theological interest include the Trinity and Christian salvation, and the intersection between Catholic theology and literature. He has taught many diverse theological courses in doctrinal theology via different formats: classroom, online synchronous, online asynchronous, and hybrid. A married layman in the Catholic Church active in adult faith formation, he is currently in formation to become a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Rockville Centre, NY .
